Tattoo Date Converter
Format a meaningful date for a tattoo in Roman numerals—with special care for month/day order so the ink stays unambiguous for life.
Critical tattoo warning: the numeric date 04/07/2026 is ambiguous. In the United States it usually means April 7, 2026 (month/day/year). In much of the world it means 4 July 2026 (day/month/year). The Roman form IV · VII · MMXXVI inherits the same ambiguity unless you label the order or use an unmistakable layout. Do not tattoo an unlabeled day/month pair if travelers or family abroad must read it correctly.
Formatting tips
- Decide the order before you stylize: Month–Day–Year (common in the US) versus Day–Month–Year (common internationally).
- Write the order in plain words in your artist brief, not only as numerals.
- Consider mixing a written month name with Roman day and year if you want zero ambiguity.
- Use IV for 4 in most tattoo designs; IIII is mainly a clock-face look.
- Check letter spacing at the final tattoo size so I, V, and X stay distinct.
- Verify each component with the decoder, then confirm the year on its number page when possible.
Why order labeling matters permanently
A tattoo is hard to edit. If you only ink IV · VII · MMXXVI, half your audience may swap April 7 and July 4. Pick one convention, document it, and keep a matching label in your design notes even if the label itself is not inked—or ink a clearer pattern such as day + month name + year.

Worked ambiguity example
| Interpretation | Arabic reading of 04/07/2026 | Roman (same glyphs) |
|---|---|---|
| US month/day/year | April 7, 2026 | IV · VII · MMXXVI |
| International day/month/year | 4 July 2026 | IV · VII · MMXXVI |
Identical Roman numerals; different real-world dates. Labels or month names resolve the conflict.
